The weather was so perfect with that huge high pressure area parked over the west coast I decided to go fishing. So on a whim I quickly packed the plane and flew up to Kern Valley Airport "L05" to actually walk into the river and see how fishable it was. It was 42 minutes wheels up to wheels down with about 10 of that getting over the Class Bravo airspace at LAX and the class Charlie at Burbank. The river was totally fishable, water was just below knee high with a flow rate you can stand up in. It was about 70 degrees with the wind blowing right up the river. I was fishing right in the middle casting to both shores and was stunned to see three Deer walking right up the river bank about 25 feet away. They didn't seem spooked at all just foraging on their way up river. Only a couple of bites but this was more of a checking out the river than a serious fish bagging trip. What a great day, fly in, short walk to the river, a little fishing and Back all in about 3-1/2 hours. You gotta love these airplanes |

 | | Nothing like standing a cold mountain water stream tossing a fly. | |
 | | This spot is right next to the runway parking area, literally about 100 yards away. I am just above the lake on the upper Kern. | |
 | | I was fishing the other side and didn't even hear these deer walk up on me. They acted like I wasn't even here. | |
 | | It took me a couple of minutes to grab a camera and get these shots so I was suprised they didn't bolt. They knew I was there and they just didn't care. I guess hunters don't stand in the middle of the river. | |
